Narcan
As WingMan becomes more widely used by family & friends of recovering addicts, it becomes more likely that WingMan users will encounter someone who experiences an opioid overdose. Each day, more than 1,000 people are treated in emergency departments for opioid overdose emergencies.
A Solution for Opioid Overdose
NARCAN® Nasal Spray (generic name naloxone) is a prescription medicine used for the treatment of a known or suspected opioid overdose emergency with signs of breathing problems and severe sleepiness or not being able to respond. It is available in local pharmacies and drug stores. U.S. laws permit anyone to purchase Narcan when necessary, without the need for a prescription. Since most accidental overdoses occur in a home setting, it was developed to be used with no medical training required. When Narcan is given immediately upon the first signs of an opioid overdose, it may counteract its life-threatening effects, but it does not take the place of emergency medical care.
We are collecting the locations of available Narcan supplies to enable a WingMan user to rapidly locate a nearby dose in case they encounter someone experiencing an overdose.
